When the Beechcraft Model 18, also knows as the Twin Beech, first took to the sky in 1937, it represented the pinnacle of fast, luxurious air transportation. During its history it became known for its multi role abilities and longevity.

During the Second World War the Beechcraft Model 18 was used by the U.S. Army Air Corps, Navy, and the air forces of many U.S. Allies as a troop and cargo transport, for training, reconnaissance, and as a light attack aircraft.

In its post war civil aviation role the Beech Model 18 was used as a commercial passenger and cargo transport aircraft, for agriculture, as an air tanker, hospital transport, and recreational parachuting transport.

Beechcraft Model 18 aircraft production began in 1937 and continued through 1969. During those years it was upgraded with more modern avionics, more efficient and powerful engines, and reconditioned to extend service life. In 1962 a model was introduced featuring tricycle landing gear.

The aircraft were used during the Vietnam War by Air America as cargo and passenger transports.

Over 9,000 Beechcraft Model 18 aircraft of all types were produced.
